We are the worldwide reference site for the MIDI Sherlock® Microbial Identification System and Sherlock® DNA and have a combined 30 years of microbial identification experience, more than any other service laboratory.
Microbial ID can identify over 2,500 microbial species and can offer polyphasic analysis exclusively - DNA and fatty acid results combined in a single report, allowing for greater confirmation and clarification of ID's.
We can also identify over 150 unique lipids, including saturated fatty acids, monounsaturated fatty acids, polyunsaturated fatty acids, branched chain fatty acids (including iso/anteiso &
10-methyl branched), hydroxy fatty acids, cyclopropane fatty acids and dimethyl acetals (DMAs).
Microbial ID has also adopted a rapid PLFA extraction technique and incorporated custom analysis tools to aid soil microbiologists with complex PLFA projects. The rapid PLFA extraction technique was co-developed by MIDI, Inc. (our sister company) and Dr. Jeffrey Buyer of the USDA-ARS.
